Post production stuff

 we got a list of sound effects to work on, but since we kind of finisehd filming hella late we just made ts and have to do it in like 3 days guh :broken_heart:

like all of these noises make sense in their names besides "car arriving at church"

like obviously car arriving at church means like car noises slowing down and stopping

cuz like that one scene with mabel arriving while otto and annie talk for the first time

its lowk kinda funny tho

Production day 2-3!

 "Hey scourge fam!" -Me, ready to announce the dumbest thing ever.

Alright anyways so hey guys hows it going im good how about you really? i didnt know that they did that oh yeah the kids are great awesome so when are we gonna do the thing should we get a cup of coffee?

okay seriously now hi guys.

Scourge fam got to film again so im merging these 2 days as one (totally not because i mixed up the video and dont really know whats from each day)

DAY 1 of 2 (i think)

This was saturday morning, this was the first time not filming at the church and we got to go to both emi and joaquin's neighborhoods to film stuff. On this day we got some shots done regarding the scene where Otto was putting up posters (and lying on the ground after I punched her), some scenes with my character Isaac being a pissy guy, and we got to practice the scene with the guy that gets run over (i hated that, the way joaquin wanted to do it was not safe at all.) 

This day was not the most successful of both days, but it was still great as we were essentially ramping up in speed and getting more grounded into our work.

DAY 2 of 2 (probably)

This day was more interesting, we had our guest actress for mable and we had to lock in and film most of the mable scenes given the opportunity. We got a lot of great shots and my annoying ass character was in there again. At some point we needed to film the car scene (mable and otto talking in the car) and for some reason went to publix. Funniest thing happened, Joaquin said we needed to buy popcorn chicken for the scene, whenv he came back with the chicken we reviewed the script and realized that the popcorn chicken was not nessesary and was included as more of a joke which was hilarious (but wasteful). That chicken was good as hell though.

As for the last stuff, we got everything outside of the final scene and I think the run over scene done, which is great because it means we wont have to film anymore after next time.

Last but not least

quick update on postcards (again...)

 I know all ive really talked about recently has been the postcard aspect of our project, but I think we finally got our final design nearing.

This is the business card that will be handed to Otto in the film.

Now that we have a finalized design to utilize in the film itslef, we can use this to develop the final design for our postcard. I decided that as of right now (that i dont exactly have feedback) Ill just try out new things on my own. For the back I decided to stay close to the previous design (as seen below) Its not the greatest but its still pretty solid for the postcard back and If I gotta change it later its easy to do.

As for the front of the postcard, I dont need a redo, I just really need to take out the "Annie Christian" name and replace it for something else, SO I got the idea to just put our names. Its got me really doubtful though, So It probably wont stay like that. As I said before, the rest of the card can stay the same.

with this I have the good news that the postcard (at least the first one [If we do decide to make another]) is almost done! Just another review with my teammates will probably put the nail on the coffin.

Production day 1

 Hey guys Today we started our first day of production!

This production day was a little bit underwhelming since there were so many limitations. For one, we didnt have microphones, so we couldnt record audio. Then our actor for Mabel was not present (not that big of a deal), Joaquin forgot his sd card so we had to strictly use emi's camera (also not that big of a deal), the church we were filming at started a mass at 7, which meant lots of people came in and came out like an hour later, interrupting a lot of our filming, our timing was awful and it took us far too long to be fully prepared, and lastly, when we finally got mics (fetched from the big E [emi]'s house) they picked up a bit too much (of like the cars and stuff passing by) and we couldnt really get much done.

Heres what did go well

We got a general gameplan, we filmed a lot of scenes that didnt require audio or mabel, and we now know to get mics. Oh also we got a slight confidence boost.

we goofed off a lot while shooting our bts footage. Despite not finishing much, it was fun and we got the general idea of what we wanted to do.

okay i cant really make any comparisons with evidence, but ill use my old blog post on the script to help.

Immediately  I noticed that joaquin had changed the scenes of otto completing the list to be... not a montage. Instead its a fully fleshed out scene and then the rest is implied, which is honestly nicer since a montage could ruin our pacing or at the very least heavily affect it.

Another thing I like is how a lot of jokes were kept in or simply improved, like for example how the "serious medical condition" was added in and also how it had an extra appearance. Or the addition of the chicken joke and uh.

damn I really dont have much do I.

Well Ill end off by saying that Joaquin is lowk a great writer and he could very easily go on to work in the film industry.

spring break 2nd post

Hi guys!

this weeks lowkirkenuinly a bit rough. It seems like things are going kind of wrong here.

Theres a lot of editing going on in our story, which would usually be fine but the thing is we are past the halfway point, which is a bit scary because it means we're pretty behind in our project. Joaquin is currently writing the finalized script for the film (they said we gotta make a lot of changes and stuff), but Joaquin seems to be taking their sweet time on it which honestly worries me. Emi's been working on the social media recently, and I've started on the postcard, which is great because it means that we arent completely behind.

spring break started!

 hey guys sorry if this post is of lower quality, im lowk sick rn cuz my dog threw up on my bed while i was asleep (gross lol)

Anyways for now I'd like to talk about the postcard for our project!

So I already did research for this last time, but that was before we had the proper lesson on print. Now that we did have that lesson I'll be reviewing and modifying my postcard to a much better rough draft.

So this was my old rought draft I made before the in class lesson, I can already spot some changes to be made.

First of all, the title of the film needs to be placed on there, not doing this in the past was understandable, however, as we still did not have the name figured out. Another thing to add is key art. This has to be relevant to the story or something so I gotta redesign the symbol probably. Now I need the director name so Ill just put joaquin since I believe he wants to do all the camera work and stuff. I also added the location, date and time of the film festival that we need on there (made up info and also I placed a placeholder since i dont think we've chosen that yet). Lastly, I added contact info, social media handle, and a QR code (that works but doesnt have anything related to the project).

The very last thing I did to the postcard was change the colors so its a little bit more eeeevil.

And I can say it sure did turn out better than before. I'll probably have to change it again later down the road after our filming and branding is more complete, but this is a good base to work with right now!

So to start Otto does live up to our original idea of being innocent looking and having the hat like showing her face. What is new is Annie has a heavy southern accent and... a blog? (and an Aunt Maria with 4 dead kids). Personally I feel like Otto and Annie meeting does not live up to our original idea. However that may be for better or for worse.

Our planning accounted for a business card that Annie would hand Otto, and that was infact executed (We're gonna do that for our postcard!). I did notice that Annie's last name was changed (probably intentional) to Annie Christian instead of Annie Christopher. I'd need to ask Joaquin as to why but yeah it makes sense.

The car joke!

Mables introduction and the lore is revealed. Originally we were thinking of having Otto have a girlfriend or something like that but Emi found that uncomfortable, and it also didnt make much sense to fit the story (like why would someone traumatized by religion be in a relationship with someone whos involved in that religion and also moves on to Annie's one? A sister makes more sense, we agreed that a forceful connection was more logical). I do like that we incorporated the original religious trauma via conversion camp. 

The car joke!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved the idea for this and it being in the script is super fun!

Im really exited to figure out how we're gonna execute this. but the idea was funny from the start so im really glad we included it!

I like how instead of just a sudden break away (like how we originally ideated) Otto's sister simply appears less and less throughout the montage, Its nice distancing without words really needed.

Then like in our original idea the priest escapes, this time however its due to Annie's sister. and then Annie reveals himself as the devil and stuff. Then Otto is told to kill her sister to open a portal to hell.

I do feel like Joaquin didnt really include the "oh our main character gets all the power but like loses her self or like gets possesed by the end and stuff"

Postcards and stuff

 I lowk just realized we dont have much going on with the postcard, and since my team members are being useful, I too will be useful.

So first lets get some inspo

Btw guys im doing this before our postcard lesson so really im trying to figure out the conventions before they're taught to us.

This example postcard has an appealing image on one side, probably the film poster or something related, and then on the back it has the name, a short quote (probably from the film), Director and showtimes.

This postcard also has a QR code for a "private viewing on vimeo"

Finally, it has contact information at the bottom, which includes director name, adress, phone number, email, and social media handles.

Again lemme make it clear Im not sure if ts is right at all, so please just let me embarass myself.

Second inspo postcard

Okay so this postcard has a few similarities to the last one, The name of the film is clearly visible, contrasting with the background. The production companies are named at the top, the director is named at the bottom right. Theres appealing imagery on the postcard (less focused on this one though). What is different about this postcard is the various awards being mentioned. The other postcard did not do that. Lastly, the credits are listed in the bottom left. Also, this postcard is NOT double sided, like ours is meant to be.

Okay so what I've derived from these two postcards is that our postcard needs to have the film name (whats our film name again??) placed extremely visibly onto the card, we can arguably have the majority of the credits on the back. My team as a group decided on trying to make our postcard look like a business card, so I'll look into that. We could include a short quote on the front, and maybe also have a QR code (fake or not it doesnt matter). Lastly, on the back we can probably put some awards or whatever (can we do fake awards? I gotta ask next class).

Okay now i'm just gonna look for business card images and stuff

wait this is lowk a goated example, we can change it to be like red and have Annie Christian's name on it, and then just put the credits and stuff somewhere on the back (or we could have Annie Christian's name on the front and keep credits and stuff specifically on the back).

So this is very rough but its the original vision we had, and I hope to expand on it more when we get the lesson on postcards!

Project 1: nikita abdul, 7606

Idea: characters getting bored of their life, so he starts to do bad, unhealthy things such as drink and abuse, and then he commits suicide at the end i guess.

Costuming is good (misfitted suit and standard clothes) but it could use maybe like a stereotypical beater or something due to the actor being robbie.

Research includes "office space" and "suicide room". Nikita's description of these films are... fitting to his idea i guess.

Gray desaturated colors are a good move, brighter colors during abuse seems fine.

Overdose for the means of suicide is not the move in my opinion since our teacher stated that drug use can only be somewhat implied, but it does fit the theme so its kind of a 50/50 in my opinion.

Audrey suggested robbie do the fake drugs in a bathroom, which makes general sense.

Idea: Film where main character constantly breaks 4th wall, character is like egocentrical and stuff. Main point of film is that another character pulls the cameras attention creating jealousy and harming the ego of the main character.

Idea: not completely realized but maybe psychological drama genre. Follows teen girl struggling with her self image and trying to be perfect and stuff.

She wants to focus on the mise-en-scene which is lowk real

Project 5: 7396 Audrey

Idea:  Nonlinear storytelling starting with a therapy session a year ahead of the main events. Main Character uses lots of social media as an escape. One day the Main Character needs a ride home, so they bring their sister who asks to be by their side the whole time. The Main Character leaves their sister so the sister leaves the party they're at. Main Character blames themself. Gets regected from college and stuff and realizes they shouldnt have done what they did. 

Trying to figure out script and stuff.

Audrey says its hard to write about because of the dialogue with therapy.

Character design is solid (professional attire for therapist, unorganized attire for main character, cutesy, planned attire for sister.)

Project 6: 4840 David Gomez

Idea: comedy, main character is a guy who likes doing good deeds. Main character picks up a penny, tosses it and teleports. Main character starts to attempt to help more people with this penny, but messes up. Travels to... spain? and london... i mean i guess yeah sure.

Look up different media texts that adapt this idea.

Most likely no dialogue (or very little)

Costuming: Blazer, nerd look or something.

Filming at landmarks (yeah thats smart)

Project 7: 4440

Idea: Coming of age. Idea started more with technique over plot. Camera originally was going to stay in one place, but Tstok didnt like that, so it'll probably change. Follows girl who is kinda depressed or unmotivated, shes gifted a seed and the camera changes to the plants perspective of the girl going through daily motions. Then she breaks up with her partner and looks at the plant.

Nikita reccomended having leaves taped to the camera to give the feeling that the plants growing.

Costuming is just standard teen apparell

Description of types of posts: Images and clips from the short film + poster and short of the week nomination.

Description of how branding is developed (or not): Posts all use darker, warmer colors (with few exceptions) providing an overall theme to the page. Profile page is a bright green for some reason which kind of just sticks out like a sore thumb (probably not intentional, but its still worth mentioning). I mean the profile picture matches nothing and feels like wasted potential. Topolski also advertises the films poster and short of the week nomination, as well as the fact that the short film is available on american airlines in-flight entertainment. Of these posts, the poster and nomination are really beneficial to the branding, but I feel the american airlines advertisment kind of breaks out of the theme due to the formatting of the post. This might be some light nitpicking though.

Analysis of how you will use this to develop your own social media presence: My group can definitely take inspiriation by the simpleness that really helps the page feel grouped up. Although I fear its common knowledge, we WONT be having a random bright green profile picture. I want to use that american airlines post as a guideline for what to do and what not to do, I dont want our social media page to have a post like that, that breaks away from the branding a bit. Instead, a post similar to that should also be themed in our own, original, on brand way.

Description of types of posts: Many of the posts are about nominations for awards, but I feel the branding us abstract enough to the point where they fit in. Most other posts are posters or shots from the film with the title there, with some having abstract elements. The account also has a few posts talking about their actors and their backstories, in a little mini series. The account seems to be a reused advertisement account for the filmmakers other films, as about 20 ish posts down, the posts are themed around another film.

Description of how branding is developed (or not): The profile picture alongside the various abstract shots posted help build the overall feeling of the short film. Cold colors invade every corner of the instagram. The videos stay on brand. The title of the short film is (though maybe a bit annoying) everywhere, which is definitely helping me remember the name, but idk if its actually helping build the brand. Lastly, the nomination posts stay in theme with that abstract element of the other posts (not sure if its intentional though...)

Analysis of how you will use this to develop your own social media presence: I liked the color theming used in their instagram. I also believe that maybe having the name of the film everywhere (maybe not everywhere but just super common) may benefit us, though im not entirely sure. I liked how the abstractness helped keep the award posts in theme (or maybe the other way around, like the award themes were matched to the abstract element), and honestly I feel like we could do something like that too.

Description of how branding is developed (or not): Every post in this instagram includes cold colors. The name of the film is posted with more moderation than the last example...  Video teaser helps with overall film i guess. Profile Picutre is on brand even if its the same shot that was posted twice, once with an award on it. Really cool movie poster.

Analysis of how you will use this to develop your own social media presence: Okay so I think this is closer to the amount of times I want the name of the film to appear in our social media page. I love the poster (kind of unrelated) but it really just helps build the feeling of the film, and since its posted in instagram that technically helps the branding. I do think they went a bit overboard with the award posts. Lastly, I want our instagram to have a unique profile picture, even though a shot from the film is okay (or the poster too) it just seems a bit bland to do.

This movies lowk kind of funny despite being kind of dark, it also serves to critizise certain aspects of america and stuff.

like it bases its protagonist on like 5 different dictators and utilizes that characterization to create humor.

They also got a torture scene thats got humor incorporated through immature comments, a style of speaking that sounds like a couple fighting, and some other stuff

anyways we could probably try to incorporate some aspects from this film, wether it be the humor or maybe something like the characterization (like what if the devil was based on infamous cult heads?) or something.
